VITALIC BREATHING THE MIRACLE AIR DISCOVERY by THOMAS GAINES
|

Although, this book is out of print, I do find that the author makes some valid points in regards to natural
health. Thomas Gaines stated that the contents of his book will be of little use to anyone who depends on
a pill to cure disease. He believed that health is governed by natural laws which must be obeyed. Health
does not respond to just a mere wish.
Mr. Gaines states that the sea of air that we breath is one of nature's free gifts which few of us appreciate.
He advocates breathing from the diaphragm instead of the chest. Also, the better that one's posture is and
the higher the chest is carried, the easier it is to breath deep from within the diaphragm.
Oxygen is so important to vitalizing the blood and cells that every 2 minutes all the blood in the body
passes through the lungs seeking for this precious, life-giving force. The greatest protection that one can
provide against asthma, colds, bronchitis and ailments of the lungs is to be on one's guard against shallow
breathing. Improved breathing habits must be encouraged and not forced. One should concentrate on
proper breathing and correct posture. This is achieved by practice, practice, practice.
Breathing actually performs 2, distinct purposes, one to get oxygen laden air into the lungs and two to
cleanse by elimination carbon dioxide and other gaseous wastes from the lungs. When one's breathing is
from the diaphragm, slow and steady, it acts as a regulator for the heart and prevents it from racing.
Mr. Gaines also believed that the mind is an important factor in lung and heart fitness. Uncontrolled
emotions and improper foods are great enemies to physical fitness and soundness of mind. Mind and body
are closely related and what affects one has a corresponding reaction upon the other. He also believed
that breathing and food were the major requisites for healthful living. They are nature's medicines and
rejuvenators.
Most people do not know that the lungs need exercise. Too much sitting and riding in cars tend to
degenerate the lungs and harden them. When lungs harden, they do not receive life-affording oxygen for
the cells and cannot effectively dispose of the gasses and wastes of the cells. The intake of fresh oxygen
into the lungs nullifies accumulated inner wastes and toxins.
Proper posture is the key to successful breathing. By holding the chest high, this prevents sagging of the
diaphragm and injury to the stomach, gall bladder, liver and heart. When proper posture is maintained it
renders a valuable service to the liver by allowing it to squeeze out blood with each inhalation. The liver,
the largest organ of the body, has tremendous power to destroy bacteria and rid the body of wastes.
Another important organ of the body is the heart. It is well known that the heart has to work harder to
circulate blood of high viscosity than blood of low viscosity. Mr. Gaines suggests a small test, to take 2 salt
shakers and fill one with water and one with oil. Next, turn each one over and observe how slow the oil
drains out. This is a problem in the human body too. He recommended that anyone with a heart condition
to avoid high viscosity foods such as, butter, cream, ice cream, fats, grease, gravies, sauces and dressings
for at least a month.
Mr. Gaines also stressed the importance of keeping the blood stream alkaline so that life could go on.
Insufficient breathing inclines the blood towards the acid side while full breathing tends to decrease the
carbon dioxide in the blood.
When one eats excessively of starches, sugar, candy, acid fruits, breads, cakes, pies, cereals, meats,
butter, cheese, oils, dressings, gravies, puddings and condiments, we are compelling the liver to
manufacture increased soda to overcome our unhealthy, eating habits.
Health is natural and when health laws are obey, the condition called disease ceases to manifest itself.
Never accept sickness or weakness of old age. They are merely symptoms of a cause. The cause is found
in the violation of breathing, nutrition, posture and other habits of living.
To correct an acid PH to alkaline, the following foods will suffice: For breakfast the following, oranges,
peaches, grapes, figs, milk, grapefruit, prunes, bananas, dates, melons, pears, wheat germ and celery.
For lunch, salads, vegetables, celery, tomatoes, fruit, cottage cheese, non-fat soup and buttermilk. For
dinner, fruit salad, vegetables, salad, non-fat soups, apples, dates, milk and buttermilk. One was advised
to eat meat once a week.
Mr. Gaines believed that perfect health could be attained by following these 10 things:
1) Practice Vitalic breathing
2) Eat vital foods in moderation
3) An erect bodily carriage
4) Practice of serene thinking
5) Lower bowel cleanliness
6) Adequate sleep
7) Relation of muscles
8) control of emotions
9) Moderation in everything
10) A happy home and business environment
